I had used pellets for as long as I can remember then went to Colorado on a hunt where you couldn't use pellets. I now use 209 Blackhorn and won't ever go back to pellets. I can shoot 50 shots with the Blackhorn before I have to clean.

Wow! Might have to look into that.

BH209 and just about any Barnes bullet groups really well out of my CVAs. I'll say sabot selection has had the largest variance in effective grouping..... If it slides down the tube really easily, it doesn't group well.

I have settled in on the Barnes Spitfire TEZ 250 gr. 100 gr by volume in my optima,

I also worked up a load with a 225gr Branes XPB that shoots well with very little recoil. 60gr by volume for that one in a CVA Wolf.

How often do you clean with pellets?

For the most part it will be real black powder and a patched ball. Don't want to hijack this thread but I hope you modern muzzleloader guys can get your supplies. Everywhere I've looked most powder, bullets, and primers are out of stock. The clueless hords that invade Walmart just before season start are gonna be in for a surprise.

It's crazy, I just stopped by Walmart and all 209 blackhorn is gone so I might have to use pellets or triple 7 pyrodex

I've used pellets for years and I'm a "if it ain't broke don't fix it" kinda guy. Hornady 300grain XTP's in .452 absolutely knock deer down! No blood trailing required. The 240 grain work well but not like the 300's. This what all of my little circles shoot and they are all CVA's. Accura's, Optima's and a Wolf. The XTP's shoot great in all of them.

I've got a lifetime supply of everything except maybe primers and I've still got enough of those to last for a long time.

I had just ran out of BH209 last year right before everything got bought up and went out of stock. I have tons of pellets on hand so began using those. To my surprise I didn't see any accuracy difference out to 100 yards (that's as far as I can shoot in my backyard range). Guessing accuracy would fall off fairly sharply after that but not sure. Either way pellets for me this year.
