Just got a call from a guy who said my 12 year old MotorGuide motor was about shot and it would cost just over $500 to repair. Thinking new motor. MotorGuide or Minn Kota?

I've always had Minn Kota's and have always had good luck with them. Not sure what you are looking for, but you should still be able to find some deals on leftover and close out stock from last year for a little while longer. Once spring gets here those deals will be hard to find.

Have had several of both motorguide and minn kota, I'd say 5 or so of each over the last 15 years. IMO the minn kota ultrex is best trolling motor ive ever owned hands down. Spot lock feature is worth every penny. Also use the directional/constant feature all the time. Not to mention how much easier it is to lift and deploy than regular trolling motors. After having and using the features it would be hard to go without them. $2200-$2500 seems very expensive but WORTH THE $$$.

Thanks all. Purchased a rebuilt Minn Kota 70 lb, 52 in shafted trolling motor from an authorized service center near Lenior City for $400. Bit larger than I had on my WarEagle BlackHawk.

Think I'll be happy.

You got a good deal. I've never liked MG. Matter of fact my current boat came with a nice MG and I just couldn't make myself like it. Sold it and bought a Minn Kota.
