So I hunt property that borders a wildlife refuge that has been opened to hunt in the past few years. While putting put a new camera today I found where someone has put up a two man ladder stand right on the property line facing my private property. What are the laws regarding hunting those areas on property lines?

As long as it is not on your property, it is legal. Where it gets sticky is if he shoots a deer and it runs onto your property. If he shoots a deer on your property, that is also a no-no.
Saw an episode of North Woods Law today where a guy tracked a bear onto private property. The CO contacted the property owner who was very nice and understanding. Didn't press charges but would have like to been contacted about tracking the critter first.

The deer would have to walk 5-10 feet in front of his stand for it not to be on my property. It would be virtually impossible. Lake behind the stand

Nothing illegal about the stand placement that I'm aware of.....but frustrating no doubt.

I had the same situation with lease land that borders us....ladder stand 10yds off property line facing our property.

Our line was marked but needed new signs.....we added new signs with name and phone number.... multiple signs in area of stand making it obvious...... believe it or not they called me and the situation worked out.

If new signs posted heavy in area don't work ...hang an old dead trail camera of no value in clear sight with a sign directly above it facing the property line.

Last resort would be to hang a stand on your side facing the property line and go sit in it.

I put stands on property lines on a lease I had facing our leased land. Everyone knew they could not shoot behind the stand and it was impossible to get excited and shoot a deer on wrong side of property line.

I found one on the border of our property one time and if you climbed up into the stand, there was a tree within arms length on our property. I climbed up in it and put a big yellow property sign at eye level when he sits down. Went back a few weeks later and he had taken the stand down.

Long time ago my old buddy (rip) called and asked if I had a ny pumpkin balls left, I did. Someone put a climbing stand on his property but used a ladder to get in and out of it. The ladder was gone and a pad lock and chain where on the stand. Norman told me "if you hit the lock on the first shot it's your stand " I missed. second shot got it and he sold me the stand for a six pack.

No trespassing signs and a cellular camera facing his treestand. If he comes across your line you'll have a good picture of him to give to LEO.

A "Private Property Beyond this Post" sign right in front of the stand would be good.

You could also leave a hand written note and asked the person to call you. They may not realize where the stand is.

Now that's something I would do

Waterfowl refuges are usually closed to public access from Nov 15 - end of February. If they're hunting it now they have bigger problems than potentially trespassing on you.
