Sorry to hijack but what knot do you guys like for tying the small test fluoro to braid? Especially the Gliss. I tried every knot I could find to get that stuff to hold. Running leader knots through rod eyes would destroy everything I tied. FG, double Uni and Alberto are the ones I've been using. My Alberto's have been the most durable but the FG the smallest (but don't hold up through rod eyes).

I tried 6lb fluoro on my 1000 size spinning reel and after a few months it was like casting a slinky across the water. Is there a secret to keeping the memory out? (unless you are fishing it 3-4 times a week, every week....)

I use the FG knot for all of my braid to fluoro. Never had a problem with my rod eyes messing it up. Strange that yours does.

Just probably not cinching it up correctly. Sometimes it's solid but others it flies right off. I just need to practice more I think...

ok... i am going to jump in and give it a try... are all of you fishing this flouro as just leaders or are some of you spooling the whole reel with it? What about the memory?

I have always spooled the reel with it, but got tired of dealing with memory and the problems it causes on spinning reels. I tried the braid to flourocarbon leader and was sold. Braid is just hard to beat for castability and strength, and it lasts forever.

I use primarily spinning reels. I will have to give this a try...

i do the same except i dont spool the whole reel with braid. i use mono as a backing and use a double uni knot to tie on the braid to finish spooling the reel. i use about 75 to 100 yards of braid on each reel on most reels. saves some money.

Agreed with the above except coming from saltwater I used more braid and less backing but there was a real chance you hooked a fish that would dump 75-100ds on its first run. I always put just enough mono backing to cover the spool completely and then filled the reel with braid. If you don't use some mono backing, the braid will slip on the spool unless reel manufacturers have caught up and started to do something to prevent this like Penn did a while back.

For the line-to-line connection to you leader, I would tie whatever you are comfortable tying perfectly... every single time. A double uni is what most people start with and it is a perfectly fine knot. One that I have caught hundreds of tarpon with. You'll want to double the braid side of the knot.

If you are tying long leaders you will want to learn the Albright, Alberto, or something similar. I know many who use the FG and in my opinion it is more complex than needed for essentially no added benefit above the Albright.

Hope this helps.
