Most OVERRATED hunting gear?

I had someone give me a butt out tool and I always left it in my truck so I never had it in the field. My brother shot a deer and brought it back without field dressing and I remembered to use it - it was much easier to use that then trying to cut around the anus. It went in my hunting bag (after it was cleaned).

What's really funny is watching someone who claims to know how to gut a deer, yet they can't figure out the right way to use the butt out tool because they lack a basic understanding of animal pooper anatomy. I've seen this several times.

Who remembers "The Cough Silencer" sure cough in a plastic tube and leave all your germs so you never get well.
I actually know the guy who invented that. My mother works with his wife. He might not have sold many at the SHOT show but he did sell enough to earn a royalty check every week. Not to mention he has quite a few offers yearly to hunt multiple species on another man's dime....goes to show there's a sucker born every minute

+1 on the butt out tool. I think it's a worthless tool for people who don't know how to gut a deer.

I don't have one, but it's not a bad way to spend 10 bucks.

If you've been field dressing deer your whole life, it's not really necessity, but it does make the job a little easier.

There's a lot more useless stuff at that price that people buy

Seems like one mans trash is another's treasure. I would rather do without a lot of my gear before I'd give up my original UA cold gear. I also love estrus doe pee, and my kenetrek boots.

I'll pass on the scent gimmicks too though. The newest ozone deal makes me roll my eyes, and I can't ever see myself paying $400 for a cooler.

Im with you , my UA base layer with the cold gear outer and I can sit all day in the roughest of TN weather. I like not having multiple layers its easier to move and less to pack

UA is not overrated at all. Sometimes it cost a few extra bucks to stay warm.... :)

I like most UA stuff. However, I find their base layers are much better when active than when sitting still. I live their base layers for golf in the winter, but they don't do a lot for me when sitting in a tree. I'm switching to merino wool base layers for hunting this year.

I don't buy the scent blocking clothes, and I generally avoid anything remotely gimmicky.

The Butt Out tool is far from overrated. It's quite useful, actually. It was $10 well spent for me.
Good tool for $10 far from overrated I agree. And it's not for people that can't gut deer the right way? Just a tool to make a job a little simpler?

So people only use gun scopes cause they don't know how to use iron sights?

Only use tree stands cause they don't know how to kill a deer on the ground?

Always use drag ropes/deer carts cause they don't know how to drag just the deer?

Guess all people that use an Xbows don't know how to shot a compound?

Just a tool some people prefer to use.
