Haven’t been on here in a while but thought I would share this anomaly with you. While doing some bush hogging on July 31 a hen flew up where I had made a cut. Out of curiosity I stopped the tractor and checked where she flew from. There were a few feathers as well as several tail feathers. I checked further and discovered a nest with 8-10 eggs in it. I had the bush hog set high and she obviously stayed on the nest with her head down but her tail feathers were sticking up and were pulled out by the bush hog.

I would never have thought a turkey would be nesting this late in the year. That partially explains the late activity (mid June) of the gobblers that were still “full of it”.

This occurred on the Honors Golf Course and we are loaded with turkey (no turkey hunting-bird sancturary).
