A buddy talked me into using the natural lump charcoal instead of pressed and it really does make your food taste better. No weird chemical flavor.

last week I ran out and didn't have time to make any more So I went cave man and piled up some oak twigs/sticks and made a little camp fire in the grill. Tossed in a couple sticks of well seasoned oak firewood once it got going and then put the lid on to calm things down to a cooking temp.

Wow.. came out really good. A cross between char grilled and smoked.

Give it a try sometime if you run out of charcoal.
