A good expose on the failure of Keynesianism, welfare state, urban redevelopment, whatever you want to call it.

I sometimes get carried away thinking that Obama is really a fascist (not socialist) and go to all sorts of efforts to prove it to friends and family. It is clear that he is a neo-liberal, Rubinite. But he's also just a plain old big city urban ghetto/union crony. The article is not directly about Obama and his policies, but it does illustrate their waste and failure (which is not something new).

I've been to many wonderful and not so wonderful places in my life. I've spent considerable time in East Cleveland and downtown Detroit. I've walked through the Bronx at night after a Yankees game. I've strolled the red light district of Amsterdam (window shopping only). I've waited many times for a subway train in Union Station in DC at night before Georgetown University bought up most of that squalid area. I've camped above Deliverance-ville, WV and have been within 35 yards of a grizzly bear in the Bridger-Teton National Wilderness. I've had to assume the bend over and kiss my arse goodbye position on a 757. But I've never been as scared as I've been when I've had to spend time in Philadelphia.
