I went to my friends house today and he told me something I've been thinking about for a while. He teaches the CCW permit class and he also works in the busiest gun store in Western KY.
He told me that the CCW classes are booked as far as 12-14 months, he's trying to add more classes to shortern it up. He also told me that the store had a record year last year and it was after the shooting that pushed them over to the years record. He also said that this year is on track to beat last years because they just can't keep enough guns in stock like they used to. The most popular ones are flying out the door just like the ammo. The ammo's high prices are NOT stoping peopl from buying, they want and need it other wise the guns are useless.
Now here's what he told me that I have been thinking about a while now.
"Most" of people taking the CCW class are "new" shooters, some of them for the very first time in their life and a "lot" of them are women. He said after talking to them selling them the gun and ammo they all are going out shooting and praticing for the class. They are coming back and talking to him telling him they "have the bug" just like we did when we started out. Now those same people are buying another 1 or 2 gund, some hand guns and others long gunss.
Now think about this a minute. It's BOTH good and bad for us. The good thing is our numbers as gun OWNERS are RAISING, these people also VOTE. The bad thing is they all want the SAME GUNS AND AMMO AS WE DO. Now we have MORE people wanting the same things we have all our lives. The more people that want something and are willing to pay for it the higher the price.
I think things will come down "some" but not anywhwere we were used to paying. Right now Wal- Mart is keeping their old prices but once they see things coming down and a "new floor price" catches on they will raise their prices to that floor. The "new" shooters will be causing that.
It was just 3-4 years ago when we were talking about 80 million gun owners but now they are talking about 100 million gun owners. I believe it.
