Anyone shoot off the string instead of a loop?

I've been using a loop for years but just got a new bow and trying different things. Been just attaching my release to the string while I've been lining everything up and I have to say it feels pretty natural to my draw length and anchor. Are there any disadvantages to this besides string wear? How long will my serving last? Any advice appreciated?
