This has been a pretty rough deer season so far for me, broken my bow string the night before bow opener, broke a limb on the backup crossbow a friend let me use, and missed a doe with my muzzleloader last weekend. It appears my luck is changing though!

I've not taken a deer with a rifle since 1997. Taken plenty with bow and muzzleloader, just not a rifle. Not because I haven't had shots at smaller bucks, I have...I just held off the trigger on bucks, I've missed a couple of does, and just an overall black cloud with this particular rifle. It's been so bad that Showmehorns and our other buddy won't even touch it and have tried to get me to trade it to some unfortunate soul.

Well, yesterday I got down from the last day of muzzleloader to find a spot to get a good long shot with my rifle. I found some good rubs and went to this spot this morning. Before I could get in the tree, here he comes. A very nice 6 point that was 18.25" wide. Nice mature buck that was very heavy with huge neck. Didn't even have time to pick a tree to climb before he came in, shot from the ground at close to 40 yards. God is great!
