So a few weeks back I struck up a package deal on a Browning A-blot 30-06 and a Marlin 336 30-30.
The stock and forearm on the 30-30 had been painted black and barrel and tube had a good amount of rust. Some rust so bad it was pitted.
The good thing is the inside of the barrel looked great. So I decided I would refinish the Marlin.
Here is where I am today with it. Any suggestions / recommendations from those who have refinished a gun in the past would be greatly appreciated.
I know this gun will not win any beauty contests when I am done with it but I am hoping to have it completed for next years firearms season and with any luck I will kill something with it.
One thing - I neglected to take a picture of the rifle before getting started (for some reason I was just excited to get started I guess)...
Stock / Forearm before:

Stock / Forearm after: (I have added a gloss finish since this pic)

Barrel before:

Barrel after: (still needs more work)

Work in progress:

My plans are to continue to work on the barrel to remove as much of the rust in the pitted areas as possible.
Then I will degrease the whole gun and finally re-blue it. So far I am happy with the progress.
Please feel free to comment or give suggestions.
