I am absolutely in the dark about xbows. My wife and my daughter are interested in hunting with me, but my wife hates shooting rifles. Lately I have been considering getting her and my daughter a crossbow to hunt with. However, I know nothing about them. I really do not want to spend a bunch right now, because I do not know if my wife will really follow through with this, so I would like to buy something she could hunt with and if she likes it, move up to something better. I have seen crossbows on ebay starting at $39.95...I am assuming anything new below about $300.00 would be junk.

What should I look for in if considering a used one?
What are things I should avoid when buying one?

I really know nothing about them, I am just beginning my research and any help is appreciated.
