I just got permission to hunt on 80+ acres in Cheatham Co. Yesterday, I went out scouting. I saw tracks of does along creek/drainage areas but not a single buck. There are two spots that have white oak and persimmon trees withing 20 feet of each other. I saw game trails in/out of the area but honestly, can't tell if they are deer or not. I can't find any feces, rubs, scrapes but didn't really want to tromp through too much since the season has begun.

The land is 1/2 pasture 1/2 hardwood and butts up to a creek. There is one overgrown 2 acre pasture (3-4ft tall grass/weeds) that butts to the edge of hardwoods. The rest are cut. The hardwoods are on a hillside (about 25 acres).

Questions-

Obvioulsy there are deer there- I am very familiar with the area and have seen deer from time to time- even an occasional buck. And besides a farmer that runs cattle in the pastures of this area there is little human action going on there.

So where are the bucks, in your opinion?
Should I put a stand up at these areas or a trail cam first? I'd have to purchase both as all my stands are already elsewhere.
