Fishes just about the same as summer if you are not a fly fisher.

I fished it last winter pretty regularly. The generation was solid, some days runnin 3 all day. Ive caught trout when it was snowing, fingers frozen and not another soul out during the week.

HAHA...yeah man. I remember being out there on the snow days...Shore and biglures and I are like "WHERE ARE THE GUIDES?" haha! Man, some of the best days were right before sunrise with the air temps below freezing...25 was the lowest I remember. Fun stuff...I'm coming up man.

I prefer fishing it during the winter months. The catching is no different than the summer, but the river is less crowded and I see more wildlife. Overall, winter provides a better experience on the Caney.

Winter fishing is very difficult for me just because I prefer to fly fish low water. Lots of fly folks do it, but it's not productive enough for me to get me out of the deer woods. Conventional is a completely different deal.

Fishing gens in the winter time is bomb. BIG fish, partially beecause of the stable weather conditions you get during most winters...a few days of overcast skies, and you're in biz. But by all means, fly or not, it's not that you CAN'T catch fish on low water...but your odds of moving a big fish except during the spawn greatly decrease. They have to be near deep water too....

You shuodl've seen the Bat Boat back on Kinkaid. He'd do laps up and down the lake. It was a 12 mile run...it'd only take him a few minutes. And you could hear him coming back the last 2 miles. When he'd zoom by, the only thing that was in the water was the lower unit. It was ridiculous. I miss that form of combat fishing...
