I always wet waded the Caney back in the 80's and 90's (I haven't fished there since 1999). It is definitely an eye-opening experience the first time you step out deep enough to wet the jewels, even in mid summer.

You have not lived until you have wet waded out waist deep in the Caney in December. I was only dumb enough to do that once, though. It seemed like it took a couple of weeks for the "equipment" to return to normal afterwards! I certainly did cherish the four 12 - 14" rainbows I caught that day.

I waded in at Lancaster once in February, tried to cross, and fell face-first just as I got to the middle of the run. It was right at the start of the morning, when I'd just left my heated car, so I was still pretty warm. That made the blast of ice-cold water to the chest even more shocking than normal. Between the current and unsure footing, I bet I had ten gallons of ice water on my gonads before I could get my feet back under me.

Never got to make a cast, and it was WAY too cold to stand out there in damp clothes and try to fish. That was a long way to drive for a cold bath.
