AWESOME fish! That will look great on the wall.

Is that a sea run Brown? The sea run Browns get huge!

No it isn't a sea-run.. it came right out of Lake Ontario..Most of them look like footballs but this one is really nice.. for some reason fish are huge this year.. 30lb plus Salmon are common.. hope the Steelies continue to be big also!

Mr. Simms.. Any time you would like to come North please let me know.. will take you to a few "special" spots! But you gotta remember that chicken breasts are not used for bait on these guys!

Tribeless.. they actually leave them up all year long and just change color of lights..St. Pattys day they are green.. Valentines they are red and white etc...Kinda gives the place the redneck atmosphere...

Are you positive that it's a brown trout? That looks like an atlantic salmon. They look a lot alike but the jaw line is shaped a bit different on the atlantics.

Brian,
So correct. It's a brown, but those Atlantics don't kype up I believe. My buddy in Maine used to send me pictures of Atlantics he caught. Besides, I think this fish came out of western NY, didn't it. Probably Salmon River or one of the tribs off the Great Lakes?

Hmmm? Just checked out your Profile, making special note of "Occupation." I'll be there soon (and leave the chicken breast at home)

7mm you are right.. it came out of the Salmon river..the Alantics here have a more Silver tone to them and they do not get the kype like browns..

Looks like an Atlantic to me also.... Really solid fish. But you guys can decide for yourself since I can;t see the entire adipose fin.

Once the atlantic salmon start their spawning run and run up the rivers, they do kype up - they also change color. Here's a picture I found on the net of a big atlantic from the Salmon River, kyped up. The shape of the head is the main giveaway - the adipose fin looks a little different on the salmon too.

flint,

I'd be happy to fish with you any day regardless of the relative scietific distinction of the fish in your picture area. I hope you have the chance to come down to TN and I'll gladly take you on a tour of our local big brown waters... now map provided unfortunately.

RIK

RIK.. thank you very much for your offer.. i had lived down there for 3 years and loved fishing the Caney often and plan to do so again.. You guys have a wonderful fishery there and i hope it continues for many more years!

As for the Brown in the picture it is really a brown! After this discussion on here my friend got to wondering if he knew how to identify fish anymore and took it to New Yorks Fish biologist who confirmed it was a Brown Trout..The record for Atlantics up there is like 22 pounds and this fish weighed closer to 30..

For the record, it is a very nice fish regardless of what it is, and I didn't mean to imply otherwise.
