All spotted bass in rivers part of the Mobile drainage are now a different species.
Alabama Bass
Rivers include Coosa, Tombigbee, Warrior, Alabama and Tenn-Tom waterway. Lots of smaller rivers, anything that drains to Mobile.
Any spot caught on Bay Springs Lake that has a chance to be a record will most likely be tested to see if it's a KY, AL or hybrid.

How are you supposed to tell the difference?

Apparently, if you catch one in the Mobile drainage, it can only be the Alabama Bass. Every where else, except those lakes in Texas, GA and California, ect, that were stocked with Smith Lake spots have only KY Bass spots.
I'll find out more details this evening.
The Alabama Bass grows much larger than the KY bass. The world record spot was a fish or decendant of one out of Smith Lake.
I do know, if you catch one on Bay Springs Lake, you will definately have to have it identified for record keeping purposes.
