Have a friend coming in for bow opener next week and we have 1 day to fish. Was going to try some spots in Old Hickory and was wondering what was hitting.

Not asking for your honey hole just a starting point.

I would like to put him on some hybrids if possible.

Shallow? Deep? Baits?

Thanks.

I've heard stripers are hitting below the dam.

I have not been in a while but I would think your choices are bass, blue gill, white bass, and catfish. For a generic kind of late summer rundown, at least for me, morning/evening buzzbaits and midday plastics for bass on banks in the 4 to 8 foot range near the main channel and creek mouths. If the weather has cooled enough and they go into a fall pattern, stick baits and crank baits will work also. Spinners and small crank baits for blue gill along any bank. Spinners and small crank baits for white bass out in the open located near deep water. Live bait and lots of beer for catfish along creek channels and main channel.
