Chad and I found one in the area we hunted some a while back. Someone took an old pair of jeans, tied the legs closed, filled them up with rock salt, ran a wire or rope through the belt loops and hung it from a fairly high limb. Where the water dripped from the jeans the deer had bored a hole about a foot deep. Not very big in diameter but they definitely liked it. Haven't tried it myself but as I stated I have seen this in action. All the deer trails in the area led straight to this thing and I tend to believe it's because it always stayed fresh and salty with every rain.
My grass is blue and my blood runs orange.

The way I do it is use a burlap sack and put one 50 lb block in, then hang it from the tree also you can simply place the block in the crotch of a tree and watch them tear the tree up. Do not put it in a valuable tree as both the salt and the deer will kill the tree.

You can buy Big salt blocks with a hole in the middle.Run a nylon rope thru the middle and hang it from a tree limb. It works best when hung over a stump or log. They chew the wood and eat the dirt.I learned this in La.we did it to keep cattle and hogs from chewing up all our salt.

Buy a 25lb bag of granulated salt, pour out on a stump and let the rain soak it in. Makes a great lick for $3.00

Steal you wifes pantyhose, fill with rock salt and tie to a tree. We do this at a spot in Grainger county. Got a hole big enough to sit a recliner in. We have actually watched the deer crawl into the hole to get to the bottom!

I have used this method for quite some time now but I use an old grass sack. I have also bought salt blocks at co-op and buried them in the ground. Deer find them in just a matter of days, works great.

wish I would have thought about this thread last week...I got a new lease(finaly a long term one) and started a salt lick this past weekend.... I figure the rain this week if it comes will soak it in the ground good.. the pant ideal will help to keep it active I guess. I am going to try it next time I go. with some mineral salt I had planned on dumping...

The problem in America is not that ungodly people have said yes to ungodly things, but rather that Godly people have refused to say "no" to ungodly things.
