Friend of mine would have the Alabama record for one of the hybrid fish. (Two that crossed and I know it wasn't the Smallmouth/Spot cross) Seems it was sauger and something else.
They took pics and carried it to be verified by a state biologist.
He then MISIDENTIFIED the fish. Pics were shown to my friend who is a fisheries biologist and emailed to several more and all agreed, EXCEPT the one who would have verified the thing.

I caught what would have to have been the state record pumpkinseed about 4 years ago. The state record is a mere 5 ounces, I would say this fish would have gone at least 12ounces. If only I knew then what I know now.

I've had several that would be line class records for carp on the fly rod, but I suspect dozens of folks have caught and never recorded carp. I mean, who is a big enough loser to want to be known as the dude with the carp records? Besides me, of course! In the same vein, several friends and I have caught some skipjack that might have made the state record, but who goes to the trouble to find certified scales for a skippy?
should have used it to catch the WR rockfish,,them things are a blast on an UL when things get slow below the dam.

That's it. Why I didn't think of Walleye I don't know. Fish was caught on Pickwick btw.

I caught a coosa bass when I was a teenager that would have weighed easily over two lbs, but I thought it was a kentucky bass and threw it back. I caught a 5lb. 1oz kentucky bass this year that gave the record a scare. I was in a bassmaster tournament three years ago that a guy weighed in a 5lb. 6oz kentucky, and my friend caught a 5lb 8oz kentucky out of his farm pond in the early 90's that would have tied the record, but he did not know it was a kentucky until a game warden identified it at the taxidermist. I think the spotted bass record will be broken well before the largemouth or especially the smallmouth record.
