Fished today caught 0 bows, 3 brooks, bunch of illegal browns and I ran into gill..., or he ran into me $\:D$ , thanks gill wasnt expecting that! But at the end o the day had a 30+ pounder wiper hit the lure with its dorsal fin perked up and lookin pissed, hit it once but missed....came back the second time the sucker inhaled the lure and gone.
The wiper took or broke everthing, lure, line, broke reel and engraved a ditch on my pole guides.....called wiper for a reason!

Allright I have to ask what is a wiper?

I thought wipers were white bass/striper hybrids otherwise known as Cherokee Bass or just Hybrids. Is that not correct?

I also think a 30 lb. one would be a state record, but could be wrong about that as well.

The fish in the pic. above looks to be a run of the mill striper.

Its just a name for its charactoristical behavior when its caught...Wipe out everything you have $\:D$ . but 30lb er is a young adult.

yeah, if the 30-pounder was of the same variety as the fish in the pic, then you tied into a true rockfish/striper.

Oh I know all about stripers and now that I understand what you mean, that is true and funny as hell. We have been catching some in the 40lb range, and they love to tear stuff up. We didn't have them around me in Miss. that was a surprise when I moved here, they are fun for sure. Nothing better then fishing a 8" brown for one either $\:\)$

I'd just about as soon have a sister in a house of ill repute as get ambushed by the wipers. I hate them suckers.

But what was Gil doing on the crowded creek? I never gave him permission to go. Maybe Tubs and Al did.

This is why I'm not man enough to fish for big stripers. They are some sturdy studs, aren't they? I have broken an 8-weight on one and cut the line on another.
