I have a lock-in at my Parent's place that is about 20' up. I started shooting from it about this time last year. I have a Cobra Viewmaster Pendulum sight. I took a few shots this weekend and WOW! Dead on at 10, 20, and 30 yards. What a confidence builder. I also slipped a couple broadhead shots in there. The old SlickTrick grouped right in with the fieldpoints.

realistic practice is very valuable. I've shot of my deck at bottles I threw out for random yardage between pins

I believe you made the right choice.

very good practice! I shoot off my deck which is about a 18' drop to my 3d target. People love to come over and shoot off it.

I appreciate the invite, but my Sundays are pretty much taken.
I hope you folks have a blast!

Safety first. I have a set hung about 16' becuase I was hunting rabbits out of my wife's garden. You'd be surprised how fun that can be. It's like conditioning for the real thing. Sit in the stand for a couple of hours in the evening, watching for movement, and then making a shot. I figure if I can hit a rabbit at 18 yards..deer should be a chip shot. Point is any elvated practice or just semi-real conditions are great practice. As it begins to cool of I will shoot with my mask and gloves on or whatever I plan to wear on the hunt.

It's good to practice hunting shots . Too many guys get caught up in shooting groups at spots every day.
I'm always practicing realistic hunting shots from unknown yardages with one shot at a time at various angles.
I'll take a deer target and set it up partially obstructed by limbs near brush or a tree , with only the vitals exposed . I have to thread the needle through the openings .
I also don't shoot for the 12 ring , I shoot for the best angled shot that would take out both lungs on a live deer standing quartering away , etc.
I aim for the exit .
