There are not too many squirrels on my place this year since the mast failure from the Spring freeze of '07. I killed a bunch last season during the early part when they were in the red oak acorns that survived the freeze. This year we have a lot of acorns and hickory nuts so there will be food for them. Also the black gums and dogwoods are loaded with nuts/berries. I expect there may be quite a few around during deer gun season but they will be fairly scarce in the early season. I will go if the weather cooperates and the yellow jackets don't carry me away. Man there are a lot of them on my place this year-and I am allergic to their stings.

Bought a new CZ today that needs to be bloodied but probably won't scope it for awhile and will use my regular squirrel rifle, a modified 10/22. Plateau Hunter

After the past two weeks I've had, I'm sleeping in this weekend. But I might have to go Monday evening.

AAHC, bowhunter, I hunt at Tully on occasion as well. Maybe one day we should get together for a field trip!

Not this year - I haven't seen a squirrel on my place since last year. Maybe it was the mast failure. I even put out apples on tree branches in the woods at the first of the year, and they sat there for weeks untouched until they rotted. I do wish I had some hickories. At 50 yrs old, I guess I could plant some for the grandkids I hope to have some day.
