Squrriel season is like 2 weeks away.Is anyone going to go opening weekend or wait till it gets cooler?Im debating on whether to hunt them this year or not.I love to hunt them, but we don't eat to much squrriel.Mainly because nobody in the house will eat it besides me.Im thinking i'll go and get a few for the freezer opening weekend and see how it goes from there.

I've been studying new places...I'll probably case some places
opening weekend (maybe do alittle huntin') just to see what kind
of hunting pressure there has been before I start any serious
hunting during the week...I gotta a feeling, the mosquito's will
be horrid in these bottoms in West Tennessee...should cull alot
of impulse hunters pretty quick...Probably be hot and humid, too.
Late September is when I do my best squirrel hunting........BH51

Should be a good crop of Hickory nuts this year! Does anyone know for sure if there is?
Either way, I'll be out there! Hope it's unseasonably cool.

There are not too many squirrels on my place this year since the mast failure from the Spring freeze of '07. I killed a bunch last season during the early part when they were in the red oak acorns that survived the freeze. This year we have a lot of acorns and hickory nuts so there will be food for them. Also the black gums and dogwoods are loaded with nuts/berries. I expect there may be quite a few around during deer gun season but they will be fairly scarce in the early season. I will go if the weather cooperates and the yellow jackets don't carry me away. Man there are a lot of them on my place this year-and I am allergic to their stings.

Bought a new CZ today that needs to be bloodied but probably won't scope it for awhile and will use my regular squirrel rifle, a modified 10/22. Plateau Hunter

After the past two weeks I've had, I'm sleeping in this weekend. But I might have to go Monday evening.

AAHC, bowhunter, I hunt at Tully on occasion as well. Maybe one day we should get together for a field trip!

Not this year - I haven't seen a squirrel on my place since last year. Maybe it was the mast failure. I even put out apples on tree branches in the woods at the first of the year, and they sat there for weeks untouched until they rotted. I do wish I had some hickories. At 50 yrs old, I guess I could plant some for the grandkids I hope to have some day.
