Can someone tell me if this a crappie ?

Looks like a crappie to me. Except for the split in the tail which might be from an earlier injury. My son brought it home this evening and told me to look at the new kind of fish he caught. We live in Hickman county and Ive been fishing in the Piney River on and off for 12 years and have never caught a crappie. Anyone else catch crappie out of the Piney River ? If so then I cant believe Ive gone this long without seeing or catching one. But then again they say there is trout in the Piney and Ive never caught one of them either.
P.S. We live in the northern part of Hickman county if that helps. Also Im glad to see them...it was tasty \:D

Yep, crappie.
Might have ripped the tail making a bed or something might have grabbed it.
