I haven't really looked online yet. But it's been a while since I have hunted for small game other than birds.

Aren't you supposed to wait at least until the first freeze to shoot and eat small game like squirrels and rabbit because of parasites/diseases?

I have always waited on rabbit's,but it usually frosts anyway by the time rabbit opens up and squrriel i used to like to wait, but i can't hardly wait anymore. You just have to watch when your squrriel hunting when it first opens for wolves in the squrriels.Last year i me and my brother in law killed 20 in august and 2 of them had wolves in them.

I hear that. I just want to enjoy the outdoors plus with our newly aquired hunting grounds it's a great time for me to scout on where the deer are headed!

Alright let me ask you this... with my step-son being literally a brand new hunter. Should I use rat shot in the .22 -vs- long range ammo?
Seems like the rat shot will just add unwanted meat holes much like a dove shot.

IM not sure if i would count on rat shot killing a squriel every time unless you was real close.
