I went on Superior once. Scared the living ships out of me. Came one of those autumn blows that makes perfect storm look like a sprinkle. Waves over the tops of the ore barges. No wonder the Indians called it Kitcheegoomie. You soulda heard what I called it.

Me and some buddies used to drive to Lake Huron every year. We'd fish from a public pier and cast J-13 Rapalas all night. Go home with our limits after 2 nights. We'd catch some huge smallmouths also. It was combat fishing at its best. Everything I despise about some types of fishing. But, I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Have done it for close to 20 years now and since i moved back to Pa. this past April am looking forward to going again!! If you have never done it there is nothing like it.. It is where i first learned how to use my Center pin reel years ago... I would rather fish for Steelhead myself but Salmon are raw power..i am sure that once you go you will be hooked....

I live in Central Michigan and fish salmon as often as possible, Great Lakes and the tributary streams. Primetime now thru early Sept for boat trolling, The numbers are great, but the size is somewhat smaller than we are use to, average 12-15 lbs. Ocassionaly 20. Too many fish for the forage available. It also makes them willing biters.
Peir fishing is about 10 days away because of the water temp being warm, but some are starting to be picked up midnite to dawn. Conditions will improve soon there when the winds shift to the North/East for the west side of the state.
Stream fishing is limited right now to some early season runners, the big flush normally appears just before or after Labor day, and lasts for about a month before the fish really begin to deteriorate. They are on their only spawning run, after which they will die,so for table fare they lose some appeal.
Take the trip, pack some motion sickness pills for the boat as added insurance, and have a ball. Heavy jackets sometimes needed for the early morning hours, you can always remove it. Come prepared for a battle, because they can be a runaway freight train, no matter the size.
Anything else I can help with just ask. don
