Three reasons why.......95% of tournaments are won flipping in thick vegetaion or brush where heavy line is a must, or caught off of deep water structure in water deeper than 15 feet, and you can not use a rod over 8' in length. Those are 3 reasons, but as BW already said, the main thing is the money and to put the odds in your favor as much as possible. Pretty much why Tiger Woods don't use a putter for tee shots.

Well, I guess that finally answered his freakin question. It only took a dozen similar replies to do it. Why would you want to start some idiotic crap like that?

let me do it \:\)

Maybe 7mm, just wanted to know why. Really didn't seem like that crazy of a question to me.

I love to fly fish, tie my own, whole deal. Having said that, I never in my life wondered why no one on the BASS tour was flyfishing, it's just not the most efficient method to catch them most of the time.

I'm also the furthest thing from a flyfishing purist, I like to catch fish period, a flyrod is just one of many ways to achieve that.

Same here. My middle name isn't "flyfish", but my email address is.

I understand what you all are saying. And I lost the purist mentality eons ago, that said I haven't fished with conventional stuff in eons as well. I like to fly-fish, but don't care what someone else fishes with, never understood fishing with vegetables but that's just me.

I wondered the same thing about tourneys and then found out the major reason was rod length. The new tourneys on the French Broad could easily be won by fly fisherman, but competition is not really part of fly fishing. I say that of course, but did compete in the OLN Fly-Fishing masters, only to prove to myself that competition and fly-fishing should not be in the same sentence.

I already stated the other reasons I feel like we couldn't compete on a regular basis in reservoir tourneys.

Plus who wants to be confused for Radar anyway? \:D

Just for fun:) They don't have a rod length limit in the Crappie Classic either and you still don't see guys chunking Blue Olives on fly rods, it's just obvious that the best methods are being employed by the competitors based on the situations they encounter. I think if there were anything goes trout tourneys (on rivers) you would see a lot more guys chunking lead than you would like to admit, because it works.
