BTW- That old Merc is still running. The boat is not. I dropped it off in IL. On I-59 doing 70 mph on the way to Canada. That boat made three Canadian bear hunting/fishing trips and countless trips down the Caney and Smith. Best float boat I ever had...until I got this one.
Brent- That seond picture was taken on your gravel bar just as the gens came up.

When I was running two boats, I would start them out 30 minutes apart. This was before Happy Hollow or Betty's Island. We took out at the rest area and at Stonewall. I guess you could say it was tad labor intensive.
In those days we caught about as many spotted bass, sauger and walleye as trout. The rockfish were just starting to come in the river and 100 stripe a day was just average.
We double decked or "nested" the boats on the takeout truck and never gave a thought to how much work it was. We had one boat wreck. I was the driver and the current got me coming into a log jam. We hit it broadside and flipped the boat. Lost all the tackle but nobody hurt. Had to drive through Brent's dad's farm with a truck to pull the boat out. Lost money on that trip. My guess is, Brent was maybe six at the time.
