I floated/fished the caney this weekend with several people from where I work that have never even caught a trout. Well everyone caught trout and I caught my largest brown to date 18 3/4 inch . We had a great time and caught lots of fish. Fish were caught on various roostertails and pin minnows and rapalas.
I almost caught my first brook trout. I saw my rod bend over and I was tied up with something so my coworker set the hook and reeled him in. He was very excited about it. It wasnt very crowded at all thankfully. We did see the pleasure canoe people putting in as were leaving though. The Caney is a fun place to fish and relax.

Glad you had a great trip and glad it wasn't too crowded.

For anyone. If you fish early in the morning, weekday or weekend, you will not have a crowing problem. And, at least far as I am concerned, the fishing is great. I have had tremendous luck with the early morning bite.

I have had tremendous luck with the early morning bite. It's a little different for the fly boys. Unless you're fishing streamers (which I generally don't), the early morning bite is not as good. Most of the time.

Good to know. The only times I've gone I was wading at Happy just as the sun came up and didn't see another human until about 8:30. I won't get out there in the boat until October.
