I'm getting excited about the trip now...one week from today!

My only hope is that the weather cooperates. They seem to be getting rain all the time down there, and it's making me a tad nervous.

When there are no schools in close(as everywhere the fishing in the surf is usually better at dawn), you can always catch some pinfish off the West wall at Perdido pass. Pinfish are not big, but the big ones are the size of decent bream and they are good fighters for their size. We have also caught spadefish in that spot, a fish that is about as deep as they are long, and therefore pull hard when they are running sideways to you. I'm sure that you'll have a ball.

I've caught a couple of little pinfish before. I have no idea what a spadefish is.

Hey... that brings me to a good question - I have yet to find an online "guide to edible gulf coast fishes" or something to that effect.

Most of the sites I see give marginal details about whether or not they are palatable. I'm interested in finding out what sorts of species I should be targeting (or throwing back). Any recommendations or guidance?

I'm going to attempt to cook fish at least once while we're down there. The rest I'll pack on ice and haul home with me.
