Another thread got me thinking about this...
I started thinking about this in regards to another thread. During the late ‘60’s and early ‘70’s I lived in either Casper or Laramie, Wyoming. I traveled the Rocky Mountain West a lot, going to and from rodeos. I fished a lot of trout waters.
I fished the Madison, the Yellowstone and Flaming Gorge. I fished the north and south forks of the Powder River and Crazy Woman Creek, too. I fished the Platte and I fished Boxelder. I fished everything around Bozeman and Missoula. I fished some lakes up the Tetons that probably didn’t have names. I fished the Wind River for two weeks solid. I fished private Indian lands.
I fished out there a lot.
I never caught a trout, brown or ‘bow over three pounds. That’s just an average Caney Fork trout. Don’t let the allure of the romantic mountains and the fabled streams cloud the truth of what you actually have right here.
Two years ago when I shared a boat with Tom McEntire (Field and Stream) on the Platte, the guide could not believe it when I told him it was normal to catch over a dozen trout above eight pounds out of the Caney in a year. Tom said, “Yeah, unfortunately that is true. They have three times the fishery we do.”

Well, they do but they aren't very big. Now sturgeon, that's a different deal.
Now the fresh water ling up on Pathfinder Res. Now that is good eating.

There are some rivers out west that put anything we have to shame. And then some of the fabled waters are a joke compared to what we have in this state. All of the best waters out west are tailwaters, which is the same as here. However they manage their completely different then we do here, and thus the difference in quality of fisheries. I have been fortunate to fish them all from the Deschutes in Oregon, to the San Juan in New Mexico, and the Missouri in Montana, and all points in between. Every western tailwater that is a big name makes the Caney, Clinch, whatever in TN look like a joke. The only similarity would be the Cumberland, but it is managed much like the western rivers.

CH- Just out of curiosity where do you rank the Little Red , White and Norfork in Arkansas compared to the western tailwaters?

Not even comparable, and not nearly as good as Tn tailwaters. They are okay, the Norfork is probably the best for quality sized fish, and the white is really good for giant browns. Heavy stocking makes them somewhat tedious to fish for ME, and I haven't been over there in a long long time.

The figjam thing is hilarious, especially since I never said I did anything better then anyone else just provided a reference to bowriters post. It was nothing about how many fish I caught or how big they were, no pictures from any trip or anything else to do with me and everything to do with a comparison of rivers.
Pretty obvious that childish jealousy snuck in the back door, and caused "some" to stoop to personal attacks when it really wasn't neccessary. I never attacked anyone, just provided a personal opinion of what other rivers around the country are like. Sorry if I have been fortunate to travel around like others and see what else is out there, and not trapped in a microcosm. BTW if that word is too complicated, google it.
