Something that blew my mind a few years ago was a fishing raft trip down the New River in WV. I actually went several times. The river was loaded with party rafts and kayakers. They were jumping in the river, slapping paddles and having a big time.

And we caught smallmouth, big smallmouth out the whazoo. I then into the same thing on the Current River in MO. On that trip, I swear, two women-early 20's came floating by on inner tubes and each had two six packs dragging behind them. Oh, they were also topless. I have never cast so poorly in my life. My first cast actually caught one of the tubes. The second cast caught the other. Man was my aim off. And after all that, it was warm Milwaukee's Best Light.

Sounds like your casting was not poor but in fact right on!

guess thats the difference between uptight yanks and friendly hillbillys. I'll help anyone that appears to need it.more than once I've stopped to help someone in need. would split my lunch and give what few pointers I have to friendly face on the river if they needed it. guess in michigan you would hide your fish so no one would no what your catchin huh?

Nope if you would read I said the INTERNET not the river. I have given away more flies to fisherman on the river and gotten people started in this sport. I simply stated that the internet is a medium that gives people a false comfort. Sure I would gladly tell you anything about the river you needed but if I post it there are, and Doublelung can verify, four readers to every registered member. That said I tell you and four people about a pattern thats catching big fish. You probably would be respectful and not share it but what about the other four? If they only tell one person each now there are ten of us. The caney is not the Madison or Yellowstone in that pressure will damage the fisherie. Now if my uptight yankee arse ever meets your friendly hillbilly behind I would share a cold beer and a samich while we talk fishing.
The sharing of information is a funny thing. Its a tradition as old as the sport yet its also the proverbial double edged sword when you do it on a forum.
All that said how many deer and turkey hunters just give away their good spots on the web? Funny how a pocket of land that you know holds a big deer is ok to keep to yourself.

If you and Troy were fishing the same stretch of river and met a "noob" angler, you'd have to wait till the end of the day to help him because Troy will get to him first and he'll talk for hours. You can talk about "stopping" to help, but I've seen Troy help others before he ever starts fishing. I've seen Troy load anglers in the boat and take them fishing. I've also seen him make the offer to other anglers, but they declined. But just like me, if Troy sees you on the water, he will help any way he can. And he won't say a word about it online.

So spare me your useless vitriol. Let's see you contribute some useful info.

I totally get the point. Internet is different than your friends. Internet is even different than strangers you meet on the water and help out. Posting for the world to see is helping folks that I will never even know about, and they are going to come muck it all up for everybody else.

All I was saying is that I don't care whether anybody reveals anything on-line, and in the same vein, don't judge me for taking that prerogative. Find a place nobody knows about, and keep it to yourself. Go there only by yourself, and enjoy all that fun you're having by yourself.

I invent a fly pattern (or not) and post a photo and tying recipe, then tell the world on this site exactly how to fish it, then tell everyone it works on the Duck River for smallmouth. Next thing I know, people are telling me not to post that information. Like they own the Duck or something.

I'm going to do it without any guilt whatsoever, just as many have done for me on this sight. In fact, I will take great pride and pleasure in it, so those that judge me might as well get used to it. If they don't want to teach or be taught, fine by me.

Has anybody taken the treasure hunting trip with the Canoe the Caney outfit? You actually get to search for buried treasure on Betty's Island. I hope they don't find the moonshine cache. Check out their website.

We used to catch trout all day on the Spring River in Arkansas during the aluminum hatch, they bother the fisherman more than the fish.
