fished from bettys to stonewall , saw lots of fish just not hungry ones.boated 2 bows 16" and 1 14" ,lost one brown looked to be around 18".saw more people than ever! counted 40+ cars at bettys and more than 50 at happy hollow.guess the word is truly out! saw a fish not far from stonewall headed upstream at least 48" long. had a long nose like an alligator gar. couple of kayakers said they saw it to and they thought it was a spoonbill catfish. anybody else see it? didnt think spoonbills were in that river.how did you fair shoreman? was that you gil in the riverhawk going upstream with 2 others in the boat? if so did the flies do anybetter than the spinning gear? that was my slowest day in a long time. I credit it to the moon and the 500+ people on the water

Hey, waterman. I was out there in a Riverhawk but with only one other guy and upstream from Bettys. Man, I have turned into a river snob. I'm saying it out loud - "I will never fish the Caney upriver in summer on a weekend again!" I was shocked at how crowded it was, and I really couldn't enjoy myself. It was just so stressful constantly weaving in and out of boats, swimmers, and waders. This is getting out of hand!

We caught a bunch of fish but nothing big at all. My buddy thought we might have caught 100, but that's probably only if you add the fisherman's customary 20% tip. ;\) We caught 4 in the 14-inch range. Most of the rest were around 10 inches. Even though we caught fish, I didn't even enjoy it - just too stressful.

What you saw was likely a paddlefish. We saw one below Happy Hollow yesterday, a very cool sight. I saw what I think was my first 30-inch trout sighting yesterday, too. Bout peed in my pants. I could almost hear him saying, "Fellas, I've seen thousands of baits, and y'all are going to have to do alot better than that crappy fly!" \:D

Next time, if you think it's me, say howdy.

Pics. of my buddy with a small brown and the "canoe hatch."

I'm not going until Fall and/or Winter. Too much madness going on right now.

I got in on this Caney thing at the wrong time. I developed an interest, made a few wading trips, bought a boat, and then BAM...the river's suddenly more famous than usual.

Yep and the more detailed you guys make your caney reports the more people you can expect to see. I find the internet fishing thing humorous. I know guys who wont tell you anything other than if thhey caught fish and get them on a PC and they cant shut the heyal up. Thats one reason I love Michigan-sportsman.com as they delete any fishing report that gives specfic locations out.

Lol.

How many people are down at Happy Hollow, where they stock the brook trout, with bait buckets trying to fill them up?
