I've been fishing Pickwick the last 3 weekends and I've been catching bass real early on shallow rocky points with White Bandit 200 series crankbaits and then switching to a deeper diving crankbait and moving further out on the points. Also, try a shakey head worm. I caught a 3.5 lb smallie last weekend and 2 other smaller ones on it. Topwater bite is really good early also on black buzzbaits, flukes, and zara spook type baits, especially if you can find some grass. Most of the guys I see and talk to are on humps and ledges out on the main lake with Carolina rigs, jigs, and deep-diving crankbaits. I have been catching all my fish between the Dam and Yellow Creek. Haven't really had to leave Yellow Creek much. If you can fish at night, that's your best bet from the reports I've been getting. I hear they're wearing the smallies out at night on big, dark plastics and topwater. Talked to a guy Sunday who was coming in at 5 a.m. as I was putting in and he says he's been fishing strictly at night for the last few weeks and has been wearing both smallmouth and largemouth out. He said this weekend was slow. Only caught 4 fish, but they were all smallies with the smallest one being 2.5 lbs and the biggest going a little over 5. The last 3 weekends, I've caught most of my fish, which were largemouths, on white crankbaits, baby-brush hogs, and shakey head worms. Current is playing a huge part this time of year as to whether the fish are active and biting or not. I have a night tournament with the bass club I'm in, this Saturday night on Pickwick from 9 p.m. til 6 a.m. Hope this helped a little.
