I have caught a few of these in my minnow traps. This one is about 2" but I had a couple closer to 4".

It is one of the darters, and I would be careful because alot of them are protected or endangered.

I had been not been using them to fish with but not because of I had even thought about the possibility of them being protected or endangered. I was afraid they might be one of the nuisance species and didn't want to take a chance of spreading anything bad.

If you caught it on the coast of SC, I would say it was a mummichog, AKA, mudminnow.
