We get them out of my father-in-law's pond by jugging with little live perch.

Well, I didn't really explain it well. I just bought mine at the hardware store. You'll cut and use about a 5 inch section for the lure or fly. It sometimes has a harder core material in the middle. Just remove the inner core, and then "tease" the stringy nylon out into fluffy, thin strands with a bodkin or ice pick or whatever. This is a bit of a pain, but it is what makes the material difficult for a gar's teeth to escape. If anybody knows of a "pre-teased" rope material, hook a brudda up.

Ive caught them on a topwater plug called a devils horse and put smaller treble hooks on it to suit their mouth better, fish it sloooooow. and stop. When one takes it jerk the piss out of it but make sure he has it. Ive caught some bream fishing on crickets. seem to like them.

They done told you anything I could add. But Gil, see, that eatin the cork handle thing, that kinda sets me off. I mean, would you eat Gil's cork?

We used to catch them with just a nylon piece of rope tied to the end of our line. We would use it as a jerk bait and thier teeth become entrapped in the weaving in the rope.
