From what folks in this area have told me we may have had a terrible hatch this year. I have been asking around and no one has seen anything more then 2 poults with a hen. Every hen I have seen over the last few weeks has been alone or with other hens that were also alone.
Anyone else seeing this?

Saturday I had a hen and six poults cross the road in front of me. That was maybe three miles from our property. The only ones that I have seen in the area, and none on or in the immediate vicinity of our place.

I have seen several hens alone in the past couple of weeks, but I also saw 4 different hens with poults (3, 3, 5, and 6) this past weekend when I was checking my game cameras. So I don't think it was a terrible year around my place, but it certainly wasn't a banner year either.

Well it is a mixed bag on the propertys I hunt in Lincoln County. On 2 of them that are mostly hardwood ridges I have seen a couple of hens with 5 or six poults but on the other 2 farms where it is prominently fields with mixed woods I have not seen anything but lonesome hens. From what the landowner has told me they probably destroyed at least 9 or 10 nest that they knew of while cutting hay and more were likey destroyed they did not know about. I can tell a big difference on those 2 farms in the last 2 or 3 years as far as numbers of birds go.I am sure not going to tell the farmer not to cut his hay until after the hatch cause then he will just tell me to go find another hunting place so I just bite my lip!

Sounds like parts of Middle and West TN are fine but here in Region IV we got hammered by the cold weather. Good thing the turkey guy with TWRA raised the fall limits this season to further the population decline. A couple more years of this insanity and we may be back to square one. Mismanagement?????

On my walk this morning I saw three hens with thirty little ones with them. They were about the size of a chicken. Also saw a group of six long beards. Looks like we had a good hatch here. I live in Davidson Co. right on the edge of Williamson and Cheatham Counties.

I've only seen one group and I counted 5 but could tell there were more but didn't have enough visibility while driving to count them.
