Cut a 1" slit under the lower jaw up towards the tongue. Gets about 1/3 of the deer off the ground for an easier drag. Tape the two pieces together when not in use.

If I can't get to it with a 4 wheeler, I'll go back to the truck for a cooler with wheels and butchering equipment. Like a previous poster stated, pulling all the meat off the carcass and rolling it out in a cooler is simple compared to dragging the entire animal out.

Spook it in the direction of truck before shooting!!! \:\)

Seriously, you can buy a roll up plastic deer sled from Bass Pro or where ever. Comes with the sled, tow cord, straps. Rolls up and comes in a pouch. Very lightweight. I keep it on my four-wheeler in case I kill one somewhere that I can't get my four-wheeler into. The other option is a deer cart...but they are pretty tough on one person. Ideal for two...one can get in the back and push, one in the front and pull and you can do some damage.

I use a deer slayer and a snap dragem. Works great.

The deer slayer is a roll up plastic sled weighs about 1 pound and works well especially in timber where a cart can't go.

The snap dragem is a two handle strap ( with two small ski rope type handles for two person drag or both can be held in one hand) with a sharpened S hook which is used to poke thru the septum in the nose on a doe or hooks around the antlers for a buck.

The combination of the two will make easy work of any drag situation and can be packed in easily.
