Which do you shoot and what do you like about it? What do you see as the advantage?

I have been shooting straight and am starting to play around with right helical. Just fletched one carbon arrow and will start shooting it this weekend.

Helical because it stabilizes the arrow quicker , like putting spin on a football .

I'm shooting straight now, 2 inch Blazers through a Whisker Biscuit. Before I switched to the biscuit, I always shot a helical and would today if not for the biscuit.

Can you not shoot helical through a whisker bisket?

You can , but they will slow your arrow speed down more than straight fletch . I use helical feathers through a biscuit without any loss of speed , and they are amazingly durable .

Yes, you can shoot helical through a WB and the speed loss is negligible when compared to straight fletching of the same size. Of course, when you're using Blazer-type vanes, a straight offset is about all you can get.

You guys beat me to the response. I was told the same , you lose a bit of speed using helical through the WB, so just went with the Blazer. I've been satisfied with them so far.
Switched to Muzzy 4 blades (100 gr) and am finding they hit about an inch lower than field points. Bow is perfectly paper tuned. Are you getting the same results?

I shoot a very slight 1-degree helical plastic through a Whisker Biscuit. I have tried straight, but out past twenty yards the thing looks like a knuckle ball.

I shoot the Muzzy 3 blade with a right helical and only have to make a minor left adjustment on the sight window.

I shoot a slight right helical. My broadheads fly better and don't tend to loosen up as much when I target practice with them...

I did shoot a 3 in helical with real feathers . My broadheads flew better and don't tend to loosen up as much when I target practice with them and I can use them on my big recurve bow and get good performance if I am poor that year and can not find any arrows to replace the bad ones...

I shoot a right helical plastic vein through a WB and have no issue with speed or accuracy nor any degradation of the fletch.

The main job of a fletching is to stabilize the arrow—think of it like a rudder. The greater the Helical twist, the faster the arrow rotates and stabilizes. However, when you increase helical twist you also increase noise slightly, as the fletchings "cut through" the air, and you will have a very slight loss of speed—but you generally will improve group sizes and accuracy to a small degree. I use a 3 degree helical on mine.

My Arizona EZ Fletch Mini puts a very aggressive helical on my Blazers...I think it's 6 degrees of helical.

I have never shot straight, sounds like it would make my arrows veer off at longer distances. always shot arrows with helical 2" vanes and a whisker biscuit. and dang yeah this thread is old, that was over a year before I even took an interest in hunting.
