I was just checking some ammo online and found a source for Greek Military 30-06 and Greek M2 Ball 30-06 ammo. The seller didn't specify FMJ but am I correct since it is military it will be FMJ because of the NATO "regs" that military use FMJ?

I apologize if my "historical" ammo references are incorrect.

Thanks for info

IIRC some were HP's cause snipers tend to use hollow points because they stabilize so well.

Nearly all NATO surplus ammo such as your greek fodder is FMJ. Ball in miltary terms equals full metal jacket. The adoption of the Geneva Convention meant all warfare from that point forward would adhere to certain 'rules' One of the rules was(to para-phrase) Projectiles would cause minimum damage. Besides that most preWW2-today weapons function best when a FMJ bullet feeds into the chamber. The CMP Greek ammo is superb through an M1 Garand...especially if you choose the clipped version!

It was the Hague Convention that said "To employ arms, projectiles, or material calculated to cause unnecessary suffering" was illegal

The U.S. military does have some loadings of the 5.56 that uses a expanding bullet.

All US military 'surplus' must be FMJ. Around 1995 the Clinton administration decided it would be unlawful for the ammo makers to sell U S military ammunition to the general populace. The law still stands today. Now a days US Military ammo like M118 Long Range in 7.62X51mm amd Mk 262 mod 0 and 1 5.56X45mm use Sierra Match King bullets. The M118 uses a 175 grain .308 Sierra Match King and the Mk 262 uses a 77 grain SMK for the 5.56 If you do see any for sale it is because the ammo makers found a way around the law. During the inspection process some rounds are found to be 'defective' and the Gov't decided the ammo makers can recoup some of their money by selling 'defective' rounds to the general popualtion. Good for us and them both. They don't need to scrap quality ammunition that doesn't meet the US Military requirement and we get excellent ammo at a fair price. The ammo can be found defective for something as simple as too little crimp on the primer to something as serious as the loaded cartridge weighs more than it should. Older real Surplus is good to go and always Full Metal Jacket ;\)
