We bought one of those Lowes gazebos a couple of years ago and the canopy has already torn up. Instead of buying another cloth canopy I was trying to think of something light weight that could be installed on the roof that would last at least for a few years, if anybody has any suggestions I would appreciate some imput, thanks!

What size is it ? Does it have any kind of supports around/under it, or just an open space ?

It has open spaces in the shape of a triangle on 4 sides. I have thought about the lack of support. I have thought about wire rope, rebar or wire fencing held on by screws.

I would have to see a pic I guess. That was one of my thoughts Tngirl. I figured you could paint either or both sides of the fiberglass. Also I dont know if you want it for rain protection or sun or both, but some screen fabric(almost like the cheaper unbrella's for deck tables, but maybe in a color that looks good) that allows air/wind to pass through and allows moisture to not "set in" yet still shield the direct sun, would probably last better then a fabric that just dry rots.
Another possible idea(once again, not knowing the size etc) what about a pergola type something and maybe even using the exsisting structure with it.

Jason it is a 10 x 10 and I wanted the cover for shade and to keep off rain. I was trying to get away from any kind of netting or cloth the fiberglass sheets may be the thing, thanks TNGirl!

You usually don't get more than a year out of the cloth covers but the netting seems to last. I'm on my second summer and the cloth has only torn where the velcro is sewn on. I just unhooked them and it's still going strong. Did have to put L brackets on every bottom section to fix the breaks after that tornado came through.
