My buddy is wanting to sell me his never used but four year old Oehler 35P chronograph. The crazy part is that I have always wanted one and now they aren't being made by Oehler. My buddy has one that has never even had the electronic-eyes uncoiled and every envelope containing the small parts has the original factory staple that seals the original components inside. I know that Oehler offers a true lifetime warranty on their products. He is asking $745...would you buy it?

I've been looking on e-bay and every Oehler 35P offered has been used and used hard. I did a search earlier on e-bay search word Oehler and came up with some postcards about caves in Lacrosse Wisconsin and some obscure artists works
http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=oehler&category0=
Most recently I watched a regular Oehler 35 without the printer go for $798.62!!!
Am I doing something wrong in my search to find Oehler 35P's on ebay?

They've become quite the collector's item since they quit making them!

Best chrono out there, but would I pay 750 for one? Nope. Now 750 is a reasonable price considering the market... they are fetching that much, and if you don't buy it, he won't have any trouble selling it.

They are good machines. I have a oehler 33 that I bought new about 25 years ago and it still works fine.

Why not buy a CED M2 with all the trimmings for less than half the price of the 35P? CED is one of the best chronos out right now and will do all you need it to.

TiminTN,
Do you use the CED M2? I still don't feel any 2 screen model compares to the 'proof' channel that the third screen of the Oehler 35 series.
Hunt127588,
I agree the CED M2 is an excellent chronograph from all I've heard but alas it is not an Oehler 35P.
Mike243,
Warranty work is still covered for the Oehler 35P

The deal maker on the CED is the infared. This increases the accuracy ten fold.

The CED with infared is used by some of the mose accomplished bencrest competitors in the US.

I just spoke with a highly regarded 1000 shooter about 6 Dashers, and he owns 2 of the CED`s with infared, shoots through both of them all the time (sets them up back to back) and the FPS difference is always 3 FPS between the 2 machines.

When I bought my CED M2 a little over a year ago, I sprung for the battery pack, tripod and infrared. The one thing that I have had problems with is using the infrared on bright days. I received more than my share of shots in a string that wouldn't record. After seeing this, I went back and RTFM'ed and in the book, it warned of this.

You're right, the CED is not an Oehler. However, if money isn't an option and you're into gadgets, there's always the PVM-21:
