I have an 870 Remington and am thinking about buying a slug barrel for it..........any suggestions on where to buy....price..do's and don'ts......etc.

Hastings makes a pretty good full rifled bbl.

get 1 with a cantilever scope mount made by hastings,that way you can put a scope on & leave it.its really painfull to sight 1 in with 3" hv sabots mike243

Call me crazy...but I actually bought a used Mossberg manufactured slug barrel for an 870 to hunt in IL with a few years ago. Ugly as homemade sin, but shot sweet groups!

Research on the net at the time led me to others with similar experience...don't dismiss it if it is not a Hastings...

I went through the same dilema a few months ago. I found that for less than the price of a Hasting's barrel (~$275) I could buy a dedicated slug gun - bought an H&R Ultra Slugger for $215. This gun is MUCH more accurate than the slug-barrel pump guns I've been around in the past. I shot several different slugs with it and most have produced single hole groups at 50 yards. I'm thinking back on the island by Johnny Bond lake you won't get a much longer shot anyway.
