Make sure you bang the butt of your rifle on the ground a few times and work the bolt and what not to make sure you havent created a safety hazard.
Do it UNLOADED (duh)! My brother-in-law adjusted the trigger on his '06 Savage 110 once and it fired when I closed the bolt vigorously. It scared the shiznitt out of me, but following basic gun safety rules kept anything worse than skidmarked drawers from happening. He did not check it for safety hazards before loading it.
