I took my crossbow out yesterday to shoot a little and it was not shooting too good, not good at all.Well it got dark on me.So i got it back out this morning and was shooting it and it was shooting high at 20yds.(Note:Horton explorer HD150 with the 3-red dot site). So i gave it a few clicks down.Well next shot, right over the target. So i say okay,i give it a few clicks up.And it brings it right to zero, and i hit the bullseye 2 times. So back off to 30yds and use the middle dot,and completly miss the target and lost my arrow .I messed my other 2 up yesterday(tore the fletching off). Can somebody explain why it was shooting so good the first time i had it out,and then take it out today and it shoot so horrible?I wasn't doing anything different.Could it be the scope?I've heard alot of bad things about the Horton 3dot scope.Sorry for such a long post,i need help.I know nothing about crossbows.

Could be a couple things. Could be your scope is messed up. Could be you are not seating the bolt firmly. Could be, if oyu have the model with the range dealy, you may have moved that. It raises or lowers your whole scope. Make sure your scope is not moving around.

If you are dead on at 20, using the 20-yard dot, shoot at 25 and see where it goes. In other words, make sure the dots are not moving around on you. If it is okay or just a tad low at 25, you know that dot is okay. Then try your 30 yard-dot again. If it is way off, the problem is your scope.

I think.

By "a few clicks down" do you mean that you lowered the dot? If you did, that would raise your point of impact. To lower the point of impact, raise the dot.

If possible, secure your bow to some sort of bench or steady stand. Look through the scope and turn the elevation knob. Does the dot move the way you expect? That will at least get you started right.

Disclaimer: I'm no expert. I do have experience at screwing up such things.

Mine has the range dealy that bowriter is speaking of. Everytime I cock the bow, the string moves the range dealy, so I have to check it everytime I cock the bow to ensure it doesn't get moved.

Thanks a lot guys. I didn't know that if you gave a crossbow scope one click up it actually moves the point of impact down. That could have a lot to do with it. My bow does have the range dealy on each side. I do make sure they stay on zero, I haven't had a problem with those moving. I'm going to get more bolts tomorrow and I'll be sure to let you guys know how it turns out. Thanks again.

Look at the scope adjusting knobs, they are marked with arrows for up-down or left right. Turn the knob the way you want the arrow to go. If you are shooting high, turn the knob down.

Might want to put a little dob of paint or nail polish on the ranger dealy. Set it at zero and then just make sure it stays at zero by matching up the paint dots.

I have the same scope and I can consistently cut the vanes off my bolts. I would check to see if anything is loose on the scope first and go from there.
