I have these two in the race with one more but can't decide on which to eliminate out of the race...I like how the G2 can switch from center to rim....but I don't know anyone who ever owned the contender...

Thanks for your input....

here is a link to the G2...I am really leaning heavy this way ...

The Encore can handle much more powerful cartridges, which makes it more versitile IMO.
So many smallmouth, so little time.

I don't know anything about the G2 but I do love my encore.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

depends on which barrels you plan on owning...

as previously stated, the encore frame is beefier and will handle more powerful cartridges than the contender.

The big selling point with the contender is the trigger. I've never heard of a bad stock trigger on the contender, but the encore frequently comes with a heavy-pull, uneven trigger which often needs to be adjusted. I have an original encore frame, and the trigger on it is junk. I've had 3 pro-hunter frames, though, and all three of them had excellent triggers. So I'm not sure if TC reworked the factory trigger in the prohunter frame.

If you're planning on using smaller cartridges, I'd go with the contender.

I have a contender and the trigger is fine for me. I have a
7MM TCU and a 35 Remington barrel for it.

I had the frame for about 12 years and had the 35 barrel for about 10 years. I had put the 35 barrel away as I had misfires
with it. I finally called them and they said to send it back
to them. They made some modification to the frame and now both
barrels work fine. Mods were at no cost.

The 7MM TCU will shoot 1" groups at a hundred, better than some
rifles I have.

I have both the Encore and the G2. It really comes down to what caliber/calibers that you are wanting. I actually like the G2 better as it is more compact and can handle several calibers that are sufficient for my hunting/shooting style. I bought it as a starter deer rifle for my young boys and have a .223 barrel for it now. I have plans for getting a 7/30 Waters or a 6.8 SPC and .22LR barrels in the future. Plateau Hunter

Thanks guys I still can't decide I guess I need to place one in my hands...yall did confirm what I was thinking about calibers...I found out today that the encore has a rimfire kit that can be had, so I may just go that route...
