Just set-up on the side of a tree away from the trail and leave it. I have a bad habit of wanting to go sit and look around before season. I would probably do better if I could just leave it alone.

Ive hunted out of shiny metal ones and been fine. If it stays there year round they arent going to care.
My thoughts exactly!

I like to trim just enough out of a cedar tree to place the stand And I leave as many branches as possible by cutting half way thru and bending them out of the way As they are still part of the tree the branches stay green and full of needles for cover Pat

Paint'em with flat-black spray paint all over first..Take small limb from a sweet-gum (or whatever is common in your area)stip the leaves off'him...Use it like a stencil and spray patches of browns, greys and greens all over it...I've also sprayed them with a spray adhesive and sprinkle crushed oak-leaf on'em... works great, then some of these ole'boys might not see'em... Camo, by far, makes a stand less noticable...Not trying to hide them from deer so much as theives and disrespectful hunters.. Thats' the way I do it.................................BH51..

Great tip fishb.... i leave mine the original color they come in and keep the camo green spray paint walmart sells for touch up to deter rust. I also use a wire spinning brush in a cordless drill to remove bad rust to allow good adhesion. the deer get used to them but as fish b said they are soooooo smart to pk up on scent!
