I was able to send off the funds for the 30/06 this morning. I am excited about having a correctly throated chamber. This rifle may have me getting out of the 300 Saum business.

Is this the rifle in the 'Santa' thread, or are you building another? There used to be an unlimited supply of brass at the public range in Shelby Farms... at least back in the good ole days.

My first handloading thrill was for a friend's 700 BDL in 30-06. That was the first rifle I got to 1/2" groups with my handloads consistently. And I used that same pick up brass from the range sorted only by headstamp!

I also told him he was never allowed to sell the rifle to anyone else, but after 15 years, he still hasn't offered it to me yet \:\)

Same rifle. I have a few pounds of that brass myself. I live about 6 miles from that old range. I has been closed now for a while.

Gosh, I hate to hear that range is closed. I spent many, many hours there for stress relief back in the mid 90's. Always cracked me up that the prisoners worked the range around all those guns!

I am a firm believer that the .30-06 is in fact the best cartridge ever.

I have a Ruger 30.06 SS MKII, I did a trigger job (Timeny Trigger) on it and shoots great. It kicks like a mule and have not shot it in over 7 years since I got into shooting Encores.

I just bought a bolt '06 so I'd have something to reload for and shoot all the '06 brass I have from shooting my garands. I bought a sporterized 03A3 that should be here next week. I can't wait.

I am going to use some 150 grain Ballistic Tips and some Accubonds in mine. Might drop down to the 125 Ballistic Tip after watching the deer Ethan shot on video. Lord they don`t drop any faster than that!!

i got the 1st year production run mod 70 ot6 when they came back out with them again with the mauser claw extractor, before they came out with the david miller stock design ones, i beleive the 2nd or 3rd year of the production run. it has a lupy vari-xIII 2.5 x 8 on it, has been pillar and glass bedded and floated and my uncle did a trigger job on it. shoots pretty darn good with certain factory ammo 1/2 in to 3/4in if i can do my part and shoot well and not drink a bunch of coffee before hitting the range, i usually do some snap cap practice before the 1st live round also, to mentally get in the rythmn for shooting it.
